It would be wrong of me to have only one project on the go....
I am also working on a small N-gauge layout which is to be loosely based on a branch line in the Glasgow suburbs. The date stamp is to be 1986-1987 as this will be home to my increasing collection of Dapol Cl.26's & Farish Cl.37's, however work is not likely to be started until Cambridge Heights is at least operational!
The track plan for the main layout is now fixed although work is still required on the fiddle yard areas.
Just like Cambridge Heights the overal size of the layout is to be fairly modest at only 8' x 10" (excluding the curved fiddle yard). The scenic section itself is only going to be 4' long!
The idea is to have a DMU operated passenger service running from fiddle yard (left), through the island platform station (off centred) into the turnback siding (far right). A couple of freight sidings for Speedlink freight and DCE wagons will provide additional operating potential. Limited loco hauled 'peak hour' passenger services will also feature.
Once again I have used the AnyRail software package to design the layout and then printed it out on A4 paper at 1:1 scale as a mock-up.
I've had the idea for this layout knocking about in my head for at least 15 years now, having seen an article of a similar layout in an old model railway magazine. For some reason I never kept the magazine and after all these years I couldn't have told you much about the original layout. A chance 'rummage' through a stack of old magazines at the Southwold Model Railway Exhibition (2012) revealed what I had been looking for. A copy of 'Your Model Railway' magazine from June 1985 held the answer. A bargain find too at only 10p!
The layout that had bugged me for so many years was in fact Ian Futers' 'Burnfoot'. When I first saw the article I was modelling (well buying) British OO and wanted somewhere to run it, however this was at the same time I had started the long lonely walk over to the 'Dark Side' of US modelling so nothing ever came of it.

We'll have to wait a while longer to see if this layouts fortunes can be reversed...
